Just devastation in Haiti

The pictures and reports coming out of Haiti are just heartbreaking. A country that had very little and very little going for it before has just been knocked back a little. No one ever needs a disaster such as this earthquake but Haiti was least able to afford such a catastrophe.

I have included a poster from the Global Seismic Network with this report. The poster shows some pertinent information about the earthquake. I just want everyone to know that I post this just for the information and information only. The real tragedy here is for the people of Haiti.

The good people of Haiti are the ones bearing the brunt of this disaster. The where’s and how’s and pretty pictures about what happened are all fine and good. We need to understand about earthquakes so somewhere along the line we might be able to predict when they will occur. But for the moment we have to think about the people who are affected by this quake. We can always go back later and study the data.

The Haitian people are going to need much help and then some. Aid is beginning to flow into the country and I am sure it will continue for a long time. For right now some critical things need to be done. First of all many people are still buried and need help in a hurry. I hope the people who can aid them can get there and get going in a hurry. Food and water will be hard to come by even as the aid agencies set up and begin to do their thing. Medical help was not very good in the country and is now almost non-existent.

So we all need to think of what we can do. I am not urging anyone to up and run down to Haiti unless you are trained in what they need. For the rest of us we need to offer aid in any way we can. Just do what you can. Just know that every little bit helps. We all need to think of our fellow brothers and sisters on this poor, impoverished island and then do what we can to help them.
