Today is Election Day

It's time to vote today!!
It's time to vote today!!

We have some pivotal races in this cycle's election!!

Well, I just went to vote. I am very relieved! Now, we won’t have to put up with robocalls, flyers, signs, placards, door hangers and people canvassing the neighborhood for votes anymore. That is clearly the worst thing about the election. I don’t want to see anyone for a long time.

Do you want to know what’s the scariest thing on the ballot? No it’s not Christine O’Donnell, but she’s close. It’s the button where you can vote the straight party ticket. That is just scary. We had 27 offices to vote for at my polling place. I voted for 11 Republicans, 8 Democrats, 5 Libertarians and 3 Green party candidates. I studied the candidates, even met a few and that is how I voted. Going in the booth and just picking the option to vote straight party cheats yourself, the system and everyone else.

I guess today in Texas we will have the end of the Rick Perry/Bill White contest. Thank heavens. The headline in our local paper one day last week read, “White attacks Perry on budget, security”. The paper could have saved some ink and just put a headline that read, “White attacks Perry.” I thought Bill White was going to be a great candidate. You could never find out what he really stood for but it was easy to know what he thought about Rick Perry. Perry is not the best. I don’t like Rick Perry. So who did vote for … you would have had to been in the voting booth with me! LOL There were also several good candidates on the ballot. So you just won’t know who I voted for.

The tone of the elections has been more partisan, more bickering, more anger than normal. I am fond of making predictions so I have to make them here. I don’t see the big overwhelming tide against the Democrats that some are predicting. It’s sometimes hard to pull the lever for a new guy when the old guy has brought roads, airport improvements and such to your area. I see the GOP picking up 50 seats in the House. Some people are saying 70, but I think that’s too many. The Republicans will pick up 8 seats in the Senate. And when the day is over the Republicans will hold 28 governorships. We will see. That’s why we vote. If the conservatives get fired up we could see bigger pickups for the Republicans. The problem for the GOP will be if a lot of Tea Partiers get elected. They are going to butt heads with everyone on Capitol Hill diluting GOP strength.

I have done my civic duty to vote. The place was not crowded at all but high numbers of people voted early in San Antonio. More people voted early than will vote on election day. So it was not a bad time to vote when I went. I will stay tuned to the results later today. It will be fun to watch.

awesome, kudos to you for voting 'candidates' and not 'party.' I will say that you have done your civic duty but the big job left is to keep in contact with your elected officials to consistently voice your opinion on bills, ideas, etc.

I belong to several groups that share a lot of my ideas. We leverage our numbers to put pressure on our elected officials to support our ideas post election.

Even if your candidate loses, you can still influence the person who is elected. All they know is that you are a voter, they don't know that you didn't support them.

Hey LRC and thanks for the read and comment. Believe me I stay up with it all. From writing letters to volunteering for various things I always make sure that our elected officials toe the line. When the people get involved and stay involved it makes a big differenc. You are doing a great job also by staying involved. It's the only way we will get better government. Maybe today will be the start of a big revolution.
