Day 6 highlights and commentary

Day 6 highlights and commentary:

Alpine Skiing – Women’s Downhill – Lindsey Vonn finally got to ski. If she were injured it did not show here as she won the gold medal. This race was cancelled for a few days and maybe that helped her. You just knew Lindsey was ready to win the gold and she did not disappoint. American Julia Mancuso won the silver also. This was a great race for the Americans.

Cross Country Skiing – There were races for the men and women in this sport and the Americans did not do too well. I have formulated a theory about why we don’t do well in a sport like cross country skiing. It seems the countries that have snow all the time during the winter do well in these events; Finland, Norway, Sweden, Russia. That’s because these people have to ski to where they are going. They put on the skies and off into the country they go. The Americans, well, we just get in our cars and drive to our destination. Therefore, we are at a disadvantage in these events.

Short Track Skating – There was a men’s qualifying race in a relay here. The whole thing was 45 laps and this was a big cluster. There were people skating on the track in the race. There were people skating on the track that were not actually in the race but had touched the person who was actually racing, but they stayed on the track in case the other person fell. There were people skating on the inside of the tract to be next to race. It was all confusing. I will have to digest this a little more to try and understand it all.

Snowboarding – Men’s Halfpipe – Shaun White won the gold. I am just going to take to calling him Le Grande Orange as they would do in Canada. Scotty Lago won a bronze and we were also 5th. This was a great event for the American’s.

Speeding Skating – 1500m – Shani Davis showed up for this race and won the gold. Chad Hedrick won the bronze. So this was another good race for the Americans. We were also 7th and 10th in this event. We rock in these types of races.

The overall medal count looks like this.

U.S.     5-3-6    14 total

Ger.     3-4-3    10 total

Fra.      2-1-4    7 total

Can.     2-3-1    6 total

We jumped up nicely yesterday. We need to keep this up. Go USA!!

Thanks so very much for the read and kind comment. The downhill is a test of how fearless you are!! LOL All the women did great here and the Americans had a good day. I love to watch the competition. I enjoy watching those who aren't as talented do the best they can do even if they finish far from the medals. Thanks again.
